Omar Abdullah Welcomes US Ambassador; Rejects Foreign Intervention
In a recent meeting with US Ambassador Sergio Gor, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized that regional issues are a domestic concern, rejecting any foreign intervention.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah welcomed US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, during his visit to Kashmir on Wednesday, asserting that regional governance issues remain strictly a domestic affair. Abdullah indicated his willingness to engage in dialogue but firmly stated that problems faced in Jammu and Kashmir should be addressed locally.
“After a long time, a US Ambassador is visiting Jammu & Kashmir. We will speak with him. I would like to hear him,” Abdullah stated, focusing on the importance of this diplomatic interaction. However, he maintained a clear boundary concerning foreign influence in local matters.
Abdullah categorically declared, “Our problems are not his concern. It is not my habit to complain about our issues to the ambassador of another country.” He stressed that solutions for Jammu and Kashmir’s challenges must come from within the region itself, emphasizing the role of the local government.
The Chief Minister’s comments come amid rising concerns over infrastructure issues, particularly noting persistent waterlogging problems in Srinagar. Abdullah highlighted that the city’s civic planning has historically been inadequate, leading to these challenges.
“Waterlogging in parts of Srinagar is a legacy issue. It’s not the creation of the last two years, not even the last five years,” Abdullah explained. He pointed out that previous urban developments lacked essential drainage systems, and the current administration is now working to rectify these longstanding issues.
He mentioned, “Neither you nor I know who gave permission to build colonies without providing drainage. Now, retrospectively, we are creating drainage in these colonies.” The Chief Minister assured residents that the government is actively identifying and addressing problematic areas, especially when the Meteorological Department issues warnings regarding heavy rainfall.
Omar Abdullah’s stance reflects a broader sentiment in Jammu and Kashmir regarding self-governance and the need for local solutions to local problems. As the region navigates its unique challenges, Abdullah remains committed to fostering dialogue while firmly rejecting any external interference.
