Imran Khan Back in Jail After Medical Check-Up Amid High Security
Imran Khan returned to Adiala Jail after a medical examination at Shifa International Hospital, guarded by an extensive police presence at dawn on Friday.

A court-ordered medical evaluation brought parts of Islamabad under heightened security before the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, returned to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail at dawn on Friday. The move followed a directive from Pakistan’s Supreme Court mandating his transfer to Shifa International Hospital for a comprehensive health check-up.
Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), underwent a series of medical assessments at the private facility amid extraordinary security measures. Authorities had coordinated a meticulous operation, involving joint teams from capital police and jail officials, to ensure his safe transit between the hospital and the prison.
The security arrangements surrounding Shifa International were described by Dawn as reminiscent of the Panamagate proceedings during which former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif underwent similar scrutiny at the Federal Judicial Academy.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court had ordered the federal government to arrange Khan’s examination within two days, citing concerns over his health expressed in recent prison medical reports. These reports indicated fluctuations in his blood pressure and other related symptoms, prompting the need for immediate medical attention.
During his visit to Shifa International, Khan received scheduled examinations and preliminary clinical tests. Following these assessments, authorities transported him directly back to Adiala Jail.
Khan has remained incarcerated since 2023, serving a 14-year prison sentence. His ongoing legal challenges and health concerns have drawn significant public attention, complicating the political landscape in Pakistan.
The former prime minister’s health status remains a crucial issue for both his supporters and the ruling government as the nation braces itself for what lies ahead. Observers note that his condition and legal battles may influence political dynamics and impact the upcoming elections.
As Pakistan grapples with its political crisis, Imran Khan’s situation remains a focal point, echoing broader concerns about judicial independence and political stability in the country.
